Control freak

Control freak e' un termine dello slang inglese, usato per la prima volta alla fine degli anni '60, per indicare una persona che tenta di imporre come ogni cosa intorno a lei debba essere fatta. Il Cambridge Dictionary definisce il control freak come "qualcuno determinato a far succedere le cose esattamente nel modo voluto e che prova a far fare alle altre persone cio' che lui vuole"; mentre lo Urban Dictionary lo definisce come "una persona che, se non puo' essere in controllo di molti aspetti delle vite di altre persone, diventa incontrollabilmente furioso. Da questo consegue il dire, esigere e far fare agli altri tutte le volte le cose che lei voglia".

Essere un control freak ha i suoi vantaggi e svantaggi. Puo' succedere, per esempio, che dopo essere riuscito a catturare l'interesse di una donna su un social network tu le confessi di essere un control freak e quella non e' che smette di rispondere ai tuoi messaggi: ti blocca immediatamente. Oppure puo' succedere che a lavoro ti trovi fianco a fianco con un altro control freak, e si sa, non si possono mettere due control freak nello stesso pollaio: questo e' stato il motivo del mio fallimento nel mio ultimo lavoro, e l'inizio della mia fortuna (maggiori dettagli prossimamente su questo stesso canale). C'e' anche il rischio che le persone intorno al control freak pensino che lui sia una di quelle persone che credono di sapere tutto, ma le due cose non necessariamente vanno insieme: si puo' essere un control freak anche quando si ha la consapevolezza di non avere tutte le risposte, e si puo' credere di sapere tutto ma non avere la forza di volonta' necessaria ad essere un control freak. E puo' anche succedere che ti serva un documento per il tuo nuovo lavoro, e che per averlo tu debba ricostruire tutti gli spostamenti dentro e intorno a Londra che hai compiuto negli ultimi cinque anni, con cui compilare un modulo da inviare alla polizia, e, proprio perche' sei un control freak, uno di quelli che annotano tutto sulle loro agende (pure con quale ragazza sei uscito un dato weekend) tu riesca a ritrovare ognuno dei sei indirizzi a cui hai vissuto, completo di post code; e pure a stabilire il giorno esatto in cui sei andato a vivere a tale indirizzo. Questo anche in mancanza di documenti ufficiali tipo estratto bancario, che dopo anni sono andati persi o che addirittura non ci sono mai stati

Ad essere onesto mi mancherebbe il settimo indirizzo, o meglio il primo al quale abbia alloggiato dopo l'ostello per circa tre settimane. Ma al tempo non avevo conto bancario ne' National Insurance Number, quindi non mi sono preso la briga di ritrovarlo. Immagino che la polizia si incazzera' abbastanza a doverne verificare sei in Inghilterra piu' quello in Italia. E a proposito di polizia, eccovi una chicca della mentalita' inglese.

Cioe', guardate cosa chiedono a Previous criminal convictions. Sto compilando un modulo per avere dalla polizia la mia fedina penale e loro chiedono a me se sono mai stato arrestato o condannato?! Oookay...

Control freak is a slang term first used in the late 60s and meaning a person who attempts to dictate how everything is done around them. According to the Cambridge Dictionary a control freak is "someone who is determined to make things happen exactly the way they want and who tries to make other people do what they want"; while the Urban Dictionary says that a control freak is "Person/persons who, if not in control of many aspects in other's lives, will go ballistic. This ensues telling, demanding and finally just doing what they wanted all along". 

Obviously, being a control freak has pros and cons. For example, can happen that you catch a woman's interest on a date on-line website but, as soon as you admit to be a control freak, she decides that not answering to your messages is  not enough and blocks you straight away. Or maybe it can happen to find yourself working side by side with another control freak, and you know, too many control freaks spoil the broth: this is the reason I failed in my last job and the beginning of my fortune (more details coming soon). And people around the control freak could think of him being that kind of person who believes to know everything, when being a control freak and believing to know everything not necessarily go together: you can be a control freak and well knowing you have not all the answers, and you can believe yourself knowing everything but have not the strength of will necessary to be a control freak. And it can happen that you need a document for your new job, and to have it from the police you need to fill in a form with all the addresses you have leaved at during the last ten years, and that you are able to find all the six addresses you have leaved at in and out of London during the last five years, even if you have no official documents stating it, because of you being a control freak. And this is possible because you're not a simple control freak, but that kind of control freak who writes down everything on his own diary, even the girl you went out with on a specific weekend.

To be honest I missed the seventh address, or to better say the first address I leaved at immediately after a week in a hostel. But it was for three weeks, I had no bank account nor National Insurance Number on that time, so I didn't bother to find it. I think that police will be pissed off enough if they have to check all the six addresses in England plus the address in Italy.

And talking about police and British mentality, I have a treat for you.

Look at the section Previous criminal convictions. I need to get from the police my criminal record and they ask to me if I've ever been arrested or convicted?! Fair enough...
