A Journey To Iceland

Three little nigger boys walking in the zoo airport;
A big bear hugged one forgot his passport, and then there were two.

Two little nigger boys sitting in the sun aeroplane;
...

Wait a moment: are three again.
No, he wasn't allowed on the aeroplane, and then there were two again.

After all night spent in the airport "sleeping rough", you can't realise only at the security point that you have forgotten your passport. But it happened. So one of us (guess who) rushed back to London. Mission impossible. Slightly impossible. He missed the flight by some ten minutes, no more, and wasn't allowed to embark even though the aeroplane was half an hour late. "I'm so sorry for your friend", a hostess said to us. Be positive, people keep telling me, so I replied: "Looking at the positive part, there's more room for us", who were sharing three seats in two. And so the journey to Iceland began.

Iceland, a land with more sheep than people.

Where Winter is not as cold as at my home place, but you need the right gear to wear anyway if you don't like freezing.

Driving in Iceland is simple: the few roads are straight. Something the English are not capable of dealing with despite all the Romans' attempts to teach them the usefulness of the straight line. The road signals are even fewer than the roads and very small. Till you come across one of these... and then you are lost.

The bare beauty of this land is stunning...

...but apparently, not everybody is able to appreciate it
and someone prefers sleeping.
It looks like, but it's not kidnapping, trust me.

A journey all along the South coast, from West...

...going so close to the glacier we could smell it...

 ...to East.

Okay. I've arrived. Leave me here.
You can go back without me.

I came back this time...
...regretfully...

...driving again from East to West...

...passing by the locals...

...some of them really witty
(ask a German what GUMMI means)...

...till Reykjavik and then beyond,
heading off W-NW...

...until the west peninsula with its lighthouses.

The lighthouses have been a bit disappointing:
I expected them much taller and impressive.
But you can't have everything.

Okay! This has been the first sample.
More details will follow (soon?).

Provocatio

Ho sfidato Dio.

I challenged God. Obviously I lost. The Universe has just needed to oppose me a passive resistance to any attempt of mine to self-degradation. Like Jonah I resisted, but there wasn't a whale to hid in. What's there for me now? The road to Niniveh? And along the road picking up and putting the pieces of my life back together? But even thought I've been defeated I'm not able to surrender yet...

The Funny Side of English Language 3

The Funny Guy

Even if that guy is funny, you shouldn't trust him 'cause he's really funny. And it's funny he didn't show up this morning, saying he was feeling funny But I will not get funny because of this funny business. O! Are you getting funny with me? Very funny!

Wordreference dictionary

Funny is an adjective with more than just the obvious meaning. It refers to something that causes laughter and amusement, but it is also used when something is strange and curious, or suspicious and deceitful. Informally it also means 'slightly ill,' and in British English it can be used to talk about someone who is a bit crazy.

Did you know?

Funny can be used to describe something strange, but not too serious. Because it can also mean 'amusing,' people might be offended if you said a strange accident where someone was seriously hurt was funny, but you can use it for anything that didn't have any harmful or upsetting consequences: "It's funny that he didn't show up to the party; he said he was coming." Or "We studied at the same university, at the same time; how funny that we never met!”

The tragedy that sparked the 999 service

Ever wondered when the 999 emergency phone line launched? It goes back as far as 1937, and it has its roots here in London.
It all started on 10 November 1935, when a fire broke out at a doctor's house at 27 Wimpole Street, Marylebone. A neighbour spotted the fire and attempted to dial through to the local telephone exchange. In those times, calls usually had to be connected manually, and such was the case at the local Welbeck exchange. For whatever reason, the caller had difficulty getting through to an operator and the fire continued to rage. Eventually, the brigade were alerted by other means, but not before five women had lost their lives in the burning building. These were Julia Franklin (55), Elizabeth Caroline Dunkley (55), Lillie Hannah Brook (47), Alexandrina Lamont (22) and Evelyn Hardy (15).
The hero of the tragedy was a fireman called Leonard Tobias, who carried on searching the smoke-filled building 'long after his men had collapsed'. Tobias emerged unscathed and was commended by the coroner, only to be badly injured in the line of duty two weeks later. The luckless hero was later killed by a bomb blast in 1940. Along with the fire victims, he too deserves to be remembered.
The tragedy on Wimpole Street might have been averted had that early telephone call got through. Fireman Tobias might have reached the victims before they asphyxiated. Clearly, a more efficient system was needed. On 30 June 1937, the Assistant Postmaster General Sir Walter Womersley was able to announce the inauguration of the 999 service — the first emergency telephone number in the world. The House of Commons greeted it with short-sighted derision:

Despite parliamentary lambasting, the 999 service was deemed an immediate success. A year after launch, an average of 8,000 emergency calls were being logged every month. In the Postmaster General's antiquated vocabulary, the service had "obtained remarkable results in securing the arrest of malefactors and saving precious minutes in summoning the doctor or fire brigade". It remained a London-only service until after the Second World War, when 999 was rolled out to other major cities. Somewhat surprisingly, it would not become UK-wide until 1976, with the arrival of automatic exchanges in all parts of the country. 80 years after the tragedy that sparked it, the 999 service is still very much at the core of emergency response.

Just one more time...

...before I go.

You and me baby ain't nothing but mammals

Ti e' successo? A me mai, neanche facendo sesso anale. Eh?!
...
Minchia che stress!!! No guarda, non puoi fare cosi'. Basta. Me lo hai smosciato. Piuttosto mi faccio una sega!

Okay, you would have been just a fancy, but in such way you really put me off. Sure, the analysis. Let's make the analysis. But what about a condom during the waiting? The condom can break. Yes, it's possible, but how many probabilities that it happens? It happened to you? Never to me, even having anal sex. What?! What does it mean that it's a small and really tight hole? It broadens with the use, no worries. Sure sure... And what meanwhile? Some kisses. Only? What about oral? What?! There are diseases which can pass to the mouth... What the hell!
...
What's now? Before starting a relationship you want to see the size? You want to make sure about the size. Really? You chased your last date away because... because... he had a too big cock. Okay. What a monster did he keep in to the underwear? O, just with a girth a little bit above the average... Yes, you're narrow. You told me. And you get cystitis easily. Thus you want a man with... a small dick.
...
Fuck!!! You're such a stress! No, you can't do so. Sex should be something pleasant, not all this stress. Enough. You gave me a soft-on. Much better to wank!

L'Europa dei popoli?

Si', dei popoli differenti uno dall'altro.

The useless people

The only people you can relay on are those you have decided to use. For sure not those you're willing for. From those you will only receive deception and falsity, indifference when in the need and hypocrisy. But if you deceit them, if you induce them in doing what you want and then dispose of them like worn out tools, in such a case they will be there for you again, crawling to lick the heel of your shoes and giving you the satisfaction to hit them with another kick just for the pleasure to do it. Using the neighbour is so common for people as it is to be used that nobody is any more capable to understand who would give for nothing in return. And for fear to be used they will escape such a person, falling inevitably in the arms of who see them only as objects. To receive something without being asked for an exchange frustrates them so much that for sure they will turn on who wanted just to help them. These are the pearls before swine, a caress to a rabid dog which will bite you because it can't do differently. And like a rabid dog must be destroyed, so you must get rid of the useless people.

Need

I need no many things, you know? The long and short of it is, there's just one thing I need of. But I'm worried it doesn't exist any more, so I would be better off stopping to look for it. But I'm so stubborn... I don't know if you can conceive how much painful is to need one single thing and to have no chance of having it.

I'm so tired...

I'm so tired... Pardon? No, I hadn't a hard day at work. No more than usual, at least. I'm talking about the last twenty years: they worn me out. I'm tired of struggling just to stand my ground and even with little success. I'm tired of being always responsible for somebody else: even when I believe of having found a person who can care after itself it comes always out that is not in that way. I would really like to sit down a say: "Now it's my time to rest. Someone of you must care after me." But I know well that nobody would move a finger.

Bisogni

Come? Ho tanta voglia di mettermi a sedere e dire: "Adesso tocca a me riposare. Qualcuno di voi pensi a me."

Catch-22 is a dilemma or difficult circumstance from which there's no escape because of mutually conflicting or dependent conditions. The phrase was the title of a satirical novel written by the American author (the English can't last the American but have loads of American words and expression in their language?) Joseph Heller. The plot follows the attempts of a group of pilots based on the Italian island of Pianosa to avoid combat missions that appear to lead to certain death. All their attempt fails, till the last escape is to declare oneself mentally unfit for duty, but the Air Force has made this impossible through the eponymous Catch-22, which states that who applied to stop flying was showing a rational concern for their safety  and was therefore sane.
Political correctness is the new Catch-22. Can't its adepts, these worshippers of self-despite, compassion's fornicators, logic's pederasts, grasp the concept? According with their holy scriptures, which demand love for everybody and hatred for everybody who doesn't agree with them, any critique to a minority (even when it's not a minority at all) makes of you a racist, any critique to any "vulnerable" group is making discrimination; a critique or even a compliment to a woman is an act of sexism and we can't dare to critique other cultures or religions, even when their members are misdoing and maybe are misdoing at your own home. Now I would like to ask them: do you thing is right or wrong that the father or the husband can decide upon a woman's right to receive an education? Do you believe that female genital mutilation is right or wrong? Do you think it is right or wrong that 11 yo girls are given as wives to men so old that they could be their grandparents or are even their first degree cousins? Can men kill a woman for an alleged adultery and maybe by stoning her? Logically, if you accept that in another culture women are kept in submission you are sexist. If you state that all these are wrong things the you are racists, you are discriminating other cultures and religions putting them below your own.
You should decide on which side to stand. But I know that for personal convenience you'll turn a blind eye, you cowards, nothing but bladders full of grudge.

One more...

...painted smile to make you happy.
And deceive you :)

Figments

The figments of her mind are stronger than my will. I must bow my head to her fantasies and keep her away, lest her illness will gnaw at my spirit. Her touch brings me down, drains my strength and leaves me confused. Failures and faults line up in front of me, like books on a shelf, when her despite hits at me. The past has twisted, the memories have broken, hope has fallen. I can't forsake, I can't carry on.

I wished to write this post before the coming of Halloween, but laziness prevailed, so here I am writing it late. Doesn't matter, I hadn't any vital information to help you to better celebrate or survive the night. Just few cultural curiosities on the celebration's origin, how it was before Catholic Church and American consumerism twisted it for religious purposes. Yes, I consider consumerism as a religion, but I'll tell about in another post. Be patient.
First of all, the word's origin. It appeared during the late 18th century as contraction of All Hallow Even, being hallow the archaic form of holy and saint and even the archaic form of evening. From this, All Saint Evening. In the beginning the holiday was called Samhain (pronunciation sah-win or sow-win): it was the Gaelic festival, celebrated at the end of Summer and marking the end of the harvest and beginning of the darkest half of the year. The night between the 31 October and the 1th November was considered a liminal time, when the threshold between our world and the Otherworld became thinner making easier for the fairy spirits and the souls of dead to come back on Earth. It was the Festival of Dead: in Ireland and Scotland and on the Island of Mann offers were left outside to propitiate the spirits, so to avoid harms to people and let the cattle survive the winter, bonfire were lit for purification and ensure the sun to soar again the next Spring, celebrations were held in to the houses and a seat was left for the soul of a departed kin who would have come to visit her family on that night.
When the catholic Church converted the Gaelic populations deliberately set the All Hallow Day to coincide with Samhain day, as it did for so many other pagan festivities, following the assumption that it's easier to change the object people celebrate than stop them from celebrating. Practically, if you have decided to get drunk I can't prevent you from doing it, but you will not care if you do it for a Christian Saint or for a pagan god. Even though, to be honest, Gaelic celebration neither the Catholic one had anything cheerful. The whim to get drunk has come much later, when people got tired to make penitence and decided it was time to give a good reason to so many centuries of penitence paid in advance. The bonfires ceased to be part of the celebrations and were later associated with the 5th of November and Guy Fawkes.
To add more confusion came, during the Middle Age, All Souls Day, to celebrate all the dead and not just Saints and Martyrs, which was arbitrarily set following All Hallow Day. It bewildered theologians, while people embrace it fully and through all Europe the use spread of visiting the cemeteries, lighting candles to the dead and nightly bonfires, in pagan revival of a spirit never completely disappeared. It was use during the festivity for poor and homeless to knock door by door offering prayers for the dead in exchange of food, to lessen their time in Purgatory. A commoner's form of indulgence selling. From the souling tradition, mixed with the Celtic believes, came the modern Halloween use of children going home by home asking "Trick or treat?", a softned version of mafioso pizzo.
The American festivity adulteration of an older tradition kept a kind of fidelity to the original concepts. Adulteration was unavoidable as always is when people stop believing in something. But the folkloristic aspect hasn't completely disappeared till the festivity was reintroduced in Europe, where it lost even that bit and aside the evil and nightly creatures, the masks began to represent unrelated subjects, like super-heroes and Disney's characters. Tim Burton fashion brought back enough people on track, thanks to his characters, but even so Halloween parties remain a not even more colourful version of every weekend's parties and most part of people don't care at all about a tradition they don't feel their own. On Halloween evening, when some Indopakistrange children  wearing masks knocked at my door I couldn't care less for their Trick or treat and I carried on eating my dinner. Candies give dental caries. And this year they didn't even throw an egg at my window.
