Funny

It's funny receiving congratulations through LinkedIn for my second working anniversary on the very day I quit the company I worked for during the last two years. Another experience has come to an end, worn out in a stunning silence by the management that so many times had prised me in the past. As for many other colours before that lessened their brightness, there's no excitement for the change but only a weary reluctance. Another period of my life is over, and piece by piece I'm dropping on the road, if not myself, all that that has been so dear to me in London. People, a job, soon the place I'm living in.
So long, for now. But soon I'll bid farewell, I promise you.

Dating

E allora?

Io: Come va?
Bene, penso.
Lei: E vulnerabile
Ottimo, mi dico.
Io: E' normale
Lei: Il mio umore e' altalenante
Lei: Mi sento cosi' inerme
Perfetto! esulto dentro di me.

In war and in love everything is fair, is said. Since there's a girl I have an interest in, the one I talk about in here (but I'm sorry if you can't read Italian you're not going to enjoy the reading), I decided to take advantage of her recent breaking up. Yes, I know, is bad. So? As far it's not counterproductive I don't care. You just need to manage the situation properly. We are in love, which is worse than being in war.
Well, she had recently broke a relationship which had worn out for some time lasting longer than logic would suggest. Had happened to us to meet now and there, she had shown some kind of attraction towards me and once I had stolen a kiss from her, not particularly passionate but quite long. So I thought it was time for making one step more and invited her at my place for a meal, using some delicacies a friend of mine brought me from Sicily as bait. She agreed gladly and we arranged for the next Thursday, when I was on holiday and she had a day off. I started my preparations and kept contact with her on Whatsapp, testing her degree of vulnerability to set everything in the best way possible to suit my purposes. Day after day we arrived at Tuesday evening before the arranged encounter, when we had the following chat on Whatsapp.

Me: How are you today?
She: Say not at the best... I broke up definitively and is not easy to accept. I'm smoking a lot.
Me: That's no good.
She: I'm feeling so fragile.
Good, I think.
She: And vulnerable
Even better, I say to myself.
Me: It's normal.
She: My mood is swinging
It swings from "Yes I can"
to "Fuck I can't do it"
Me: Think to the all good things I have here for you and your mood will soar.
She: I feel so defenceless
Great! I exulted.
She: And my shift has been changed to Thursday
Shit...
She: So not even food consolation for me.

Pietas

Pietas, translated variously as "duty", "religiosity" or "religious behavior", "loyalty", "devotion", or "filial piety" (English "piety" derives from the Latin), was one of the chief virtues among the ancient Romans. It was the distinguishing virtue of the founding hero Aeneas, who is often given the adjectival epithet pius ("religious") throughout Vergil's epic Aeneid. The sacred nature of pietas was embodied by the divine personification Pietas, a goddess often pictured on Roman coins. The Greek equivalent is eusebeia (εὐσέβεια).
Cicero defined pietas as the virtue "which admonishes us to do our duty to our country or our parents or other blood relations." The man who possessed pietas "performed all his duties towards the deity and his fellow human beings fully and in every respect," as the 19th-century classical scholar Georg Wissowa described it.

A new homeless has appeared at Tower Hill station. He seats there waiting for charity, only a little dog as company. In the passers-by's eyes I see the piety stirred in them by the sight of the little dog, when the human misery leaves them completely indifferent.

Outing

It's time for me to make outing. I need to confess something that some of you already know and some others already suspect. I am racist. And I am homophobe. I am sexist. And I make discriminations on cultural and religious basis.
I am racist because I believe in different human races on biological basis. I am homophobe because I believe that homosexuality is a life style choice which is wrong, something I discuss often with my homosexual friends, and I believe also that showing homosexuality as normal and natural, when not even superior may deceive people in doing wrong choices: when something is also around you and nobody condemns it, when it's even exalted, it's unsurprising that a young and not completely formed mind will be attracted by it and the proof that it happens is apparent. I'm sexist because I think that males and females have different biological features which are often determining in our behaviour and are stronger than nurture. I make discriminations on cultural and religious basis for I can't accept that a man, father or husband, can decide if a woman has or has not the right to receive an education, can sell her like an animal, can have the right to beat or even kill her. You may try to show that I'm wrong, but I strongly doubt you can.
Political correctness is a gag to prevent you showing your ideas. Get rid of it. It's not a form of respect towards other people, but only a form of oppression and a lack of respect towards you. Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal is a clear proof of it.

Unfair rights

We can't lose love, least of all to find it again. Love is always with us, if it's something we are capable of. To find a person capable of loving is rather possible, even if difficult. To lose such a person, instead, is extremely and unfairly easy. Comes for all those who dare facing the truth, the day when we realize that we have no more right to dream.

Escape

In times like these, escape is the only way to stay alive and keep dreaming (Henri Laborit). But the time may arrive when escaping is anything but useless and our only other choice is to stand our ground and fight. When such a time comes, as it's come for us today, we must cast our own dreams aside and ready ourselves to die, not in the flesh but in the spirit. Death for our own aspirations and desires, the end of us as individuals to give a chance to our children and granchildren to survive culturally.

A friend in need's a friend indeed

Golden Rays Of Sunshine

Wake up... wake up... A voice makes its way through my sleep, feeble and far away first, then stronger and stronger. Finally it pierces the sleep's membrane, passes beyond the veil of unconsciousness and reaches me there where I sank to forget the world and its sorrow.

I open my eyes in the dark of my bedroom. A dream... You're not sleeping any more. I open my eyes wide and spring up, seating on the bed. The room is not so dark and I can see the objects around me: the bedside table, the door ajar, the wardrobe. I can even see the pattern of my bed cover. At this point I realize that a ghostly luminescence emanates from the painting hung on the wall facing my bed. And... the painting seems to move. The images in the painting are like they're moving, like rippling, the paint used to draw them stirred by a liquid flowing to and fro in placid waves underneath.

The ram at the centre of the painting stares questioning at me, asking me to follow him. It's been this feeling to drive me in buying the picture. The feeling that my totem animal was waiting for me, waiting for me to find him. And finally I've found him, represented in the work of a painter who I didn't know and who could know nothing about me. Still, it's like the painting has been drawn exactly for me. Aries, my zodiac, waits for me, with a questioning stare, puzzled of me needing such a long time to find him. A distant destination, a goal to reach, that place I search for but I'm not able to find: this is in the painting too.

It's time for you to come with me, he says now in the silence of the night. Why do you still linger in this Middle World? This isn't your place.
I know that what he says is true. There's nothing here for me. No more. Maybe never been. It's a land of transit, a doorway. But... should I go through in my own? She's still in here...
In your own you have reached this Middle World. In your own you will leave it. You can't linger waiting for her. She has decided to walk with you no more.
But I still love her...
And forever you will. My thoughts were bare. But your world is waiting for you and you cannot stay here. I know that his words are not wrong. A shiver runs down my back, shaking me whole. My heart aches in my chest, like caught in a grip. I stare to the landscape in the painting, with the spheric and woody hill beyond the ram. Spheric, like it's a planet in its own, ready to rise in the sky and leave forever the orbit of this world. Ready to follow its own path.

Suddenly I open my eyes in the dark of my bedroom. The wall in front of me is a wall of shadow. The painting is just a darker rectangle. I dreamed... I dreamed and the emotions of the dream are slowly flowing away from me, into the darkness and the silence, for my inability to keep them with me.

Golden Rays of Sunshine is a painting by Cyndi Speer.

But our life's...

...made up of choices (some without appeal)

Nightmare!(now your nightmare comes to life)
Dragged ya down below
Down to the devil's show
To be his guest forever
Peace of mind is less than never
Hate to twist your mind
But God ain't on your side
An old acquaintance severed
Burn the world your last endeavor

Flesh is burning
You can smell it in the air
'Cause men like you have
Such easy soul to steal (steal)
So stand in line while
They ink numbers in your head
You're now a slave
Until the end of time here
Nothing stops the madness,
Turning, haunting, yearning
Pull the trigger

You should have known
The price of evil
And it hurts to know
That you belong here, yeah
Ooh, it's your fuckin' nightmare

(While your nightmare comes to life)
Can't wake up in a sweat
'Cause it ain't over yet
Still dancing with your demons
Victim of your own creation
Beyond the will to fight
Where all that's wrong is right
Where hate don't need a reason
Loathing self-assassination

You've been lied to
Just to rape you of your site
And now they have the nerve
To tell you how to feel (feel)

So sedated as they
Medicate your brain
And while you slowly
Go insane they tell ya
"Given with the best intentions
Help you with your complications"

You should have known
The price of evil
And it hurts to know
That you belong here, yeah
No one to call
Everybody to fear
Your tragic fate is looking so clear, yeah
Oh, it's your fuckin' nightmare

Fight
Not to fail
Not to fall
Or you'll end up like the others

Die
Die again
Drenched in sin
With no respect for another

Down
Feel the fire (fire)
Feel the hate
Your pain is what we desire

Lost
Hit the wall (wall)
Watch you crawl (crawl)
Such a replaceable liar

And I know you hear their voices (calling from above)
And I know they may seem real (these signals of love)
But our life's made up of choices (some without appeal)
They took for granted your soul
And it's ours now to steal

(As your nightmare comes to life)
You should have known
The price of evil
And it hurts to know
That you belong here, yeah
No one to call
Everybody to fear
Your tragic fate is looking so clear, yeah
Ooh, it's your fuckin' nightmare

Golden Rays of Sunshine

Svegliati... svegliati...

Ho sognato...

How much do we really give? And how much do we take back in exchange for what we believe we have given? Is it harder to forgive a wrongdoing or to accept that who loves us has forgiven us? What are we ready to give up for fear of facing something too big for us? What are we ready to fight for up to bleeding in the flesh and soul? Where does our responsibility for our neighbour end? Where does other people's responsibility for us end? How much of us is really love and how much of it is egoism?

How much can our heart contain before bursting, its tissues tearing off like a worn out clothe, sheding all its contents?

Monday 5 October 2015

Dear British people. I'm afraid but...

...the French have the point. About gardening, at least.

In 2013, after having read a post on LinkedIn, where a British guy was telling how much better gardening in France was respect to UK, I decided to verify it in my own. In my experience when a Briton says that something abroad is better than in England it must be wonderful. Even more since it's about gardening. It's like when an Italian says that French food is good: it must be really good. And French food is good.
That guy wrote particularly about public parks in Paris, so in September 2013 I travelled to Paris with my at that time girlfriend. I reported about that journey on this blog, in Paris to eat and Breakfast in Paris, but I focused more on the pleasure I had in eating again real food, food for the body and the soul. Something that in London hardly you can find except if you go for a meal in a place where, to pay the check, you must sell out one of your own kidneys. For a reason or for another, I delayed till now to publish the photos of gardens and parks I took in Paris.

The principal objective of the journey was to visit Jardin de Luxemburg, and the expectations were fulfilled. A second journey to Calais in August 2014 confirmed that the trend wasn't just for Paris, but I'll speak about Calais in another post. When, I don't know.
As the inspiring Briton had said on his post, gardening in Paris was still something of whom the gardeners were proud. The first difference I noticed between parks in London and those in Paris is the number of staff committed to pick the rubbish up and that to proper gardening. In my working experience in London, at least 60% of time, effort and costs are for rubbish picking, busying the most of the staff in such a task all day long. While in Paris, thanks to a level of civility of the public which I haven't witnessed in UK neither in Italy (the chairs in the next photo are not chained or locked to the ground), only 1 gardener out of 10 was committed to pick the rubbish up. And it didn't keep him really busy.

The original post stirred a good number of comments from gardeners, designers and other people working in the horticultural industry, all pledged to defend the local gardens. The comments, all from people who have never seen a garden out this island, ranged from: "You should go to Regents Park. I was there last Sunday and at 8 pm the gardeners were still taking the rubbish away." (exactly what I said: the gardeners here have to take the rubbish away instead that do gardening) to more personal comments like: "I prefer our kind of parks, they are more natural." De gustibus no disputandum est. Nobody can discuss tastes, of course. But, well, in Paris they don't miss this gardening style too.

The second difference between gardening in France and London is that in France the parks and gardens are kept as they are meant to be, sticking to the original design, while in London the companies taking care of the green areas are not really interested in doing their job at the best. Pretty much in any park in London is possible to notice that where the plants died they have been replaced picking random plants, so that the original design is often going to disappear. And pruning is a forgotten art: in more than 4 years I've never been able to find in London a rose properly pruned, just to make an example. Big parks or small green areas around the cities, the commitment the French authorities got towards them is always the same: using a not mine expression "they didn't farm the maintenance to the best offerer" but pledged to keep them at highest standards.

I have just one last comment and don't take that too bad, please. The French are better to brew ale as well, sorry.

Bottoms up!

Bye Bye Beautiful

Finally the hills are without eyes
They are tired of painting a dead man's face
red with their own blood

They used to love having so much to lose
Blink your eyes just once and see everything in ruins

Did you ever hear what I told you?
Did you ever read what I wrote you?
Did you ever listen to what we played?
Did you ever let in what the world said?
Did we get this far just to feel your hate?
Did we play to become only pawns in the game?
How blind can you be, don't you see?
You chose the long road, but we'll be waiting

Bye bye, beautiful x2

Jacob`s ghost for the girl in white
Blindfold for the blind
Dead Siblings walking the dying Earth

Noose around a choking heart
Eternity torn apart
Slow toll now the funeral bells

"I need to die to feel alive"

Did you ever hear what I told you?
Did you ever read what I wrote you?
Did you ever listen to what we played?
Did you ever let in what the world said?
Did we get this far just to feel your hate?
Did we play to become only pawns in the game?
How blind can you be, don't you see?
You chose the long road, but we'll be waiting

Bye bye, beautiful x4

It's not the tree that forsakes the flower
But the flower that forsakes the tree
Someday I`ll learn to love these scars
Still fresh from the red-hot blade of your words

How blind can you be, don't you see? x3
That the gambler lost all he does not have...

The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain

All the light of the world

The clouds' shadows run fast on the glass facade of the buildings around me, while I seat up here sharpening my thoughts. The sun's heat comes and goes on my back, imitating the alternate of my moods. The city's din rise up in a continuous rumble from its streets to the roof where I am, blending with my confused thoughts. It's in this continuous mixing of pleasure and annoyance that you realize that, when your education and your believes don't let you to conceive that a relationship can finish, you can't write the word end. So you find yourself to face this feeling of void and you don't know how to do it. You spend your time ransacking inside yourself in search of an explanation which makes sense, but in this way you make it even worse. Like they are cobbles in your hands, you turn around and around again in your mind all the accusations you have received and the promises were asked you to utter: you don't know any more if those accusations are rightful, but you know that you didn't kept those promises. You think about the illness you used to justify who treated you bad, and you think to the sorrow that who loved you suffered because had no chance to understand what was driving you from inside. And you wonder where is the difference between a woman who loved you with all herself but then got lost and threw you away, crumpling you up like a paper sheet already written all over, and that woman who feared to love you deeply but made sure, before walking out of your life, that you had all you need, a bit like folding a dress up and laying it at the edge of the bed before leaving home. In both cases the result was the same: you were alone to come to terms with the awareness that you had to give more but it's too late now. In the heart of your heart you know that's of no importance if you have given all that you could, because you didn't know it but there was no chance that all that you could give would have sufficed. And than you start thinking that, instead of taking the challenge up once more, maybe is better to restrain your instincts, change your necessities and ignore your desires. Because maybe is better don't give anything if the person you will give it cannot guarantee that she will be able to be satisfied with that. For, my love, I can give you all the light of this world, but then I will have no eyes to admire your beauty.

Misneach

E' insano, lo so...

It was an orchid I donated to her. I had even given a name to it, Misneach, which means hope in Irish Gaelic. The plant grew full of blossom for a couple of years. It died three days after she had walked out. I have thrown it away only today. Every snap of the stem, while I was breaking it, had an echo in my heart.

It's insane, I know...

I love this concept!

Misogyny: show some pity

Pensieri estemporanei: italiani si, italiani no

"Were saying how nice you are, but they didn't know I understand Italian."
