Ancora sulle truffe a Londra

Chi sia in cerca di una sistemazione a Londra, si tratti di una camera in flat sharing o di una casa/appartamento, incappera' senz'altro, prima o poi, mentre cerca fra gli avvisi on line, quel tipo di offerta che immediatamente appare troppo buona per lasciarsela scappare. Non abbastanza buona da essere ritenuta falsa, ma comunque abbastanza buona per prezzo e qualita' da far decidere di coglierla al volo. Un po' di tempo fa vedo su Gumtree una di queste offerte, per un appartamento a Leytonstone (East London). Le foto sono interessanti...

...il prezzo era ancor piu' interessante. Anche troppo interessante, per chi abbia una vaga idea di quanto costi affittare un appartamento a Londra. 

Di solito, pero', gli scammers non mettono alcun numero di telefono, si fanno contattare via email. Gumtree consiglia di non fornire la propria email, ma di comunicare tramite il sito, per una questione di sicurezza, ma la prima cosa che fa uno scammer e' darti la sua email e chiederti di scrivergli li'. Nel caso specifico, sull'advertising erano presenti sia un indirizzo email che un numero di telefono. Cosi' ho chiamato il numero di cellulare, che pero' era inattivo. Chi affitta ha preso l'abitudine di comprare delle SIM (con 1 pound ne prendi una gia' attiva) che usano per gli advertisings e buttano non appena hanno affittato l'immobile o la stanza. 

A questo punto ero gia' convinto si trattasse di scam, ma sono voluto andare avanti avendo questo post gia' in mente. Allora scrivo all'indirizzo email dell'ad, che e' questo leonis.martz@gmail.com, giusto in caso qualcuno di voi vi incappasse fortuitamente:

I've just seen your ad about a flat in Leytonstone. Is it still available? I tried to call you but was not able to get through.

La risposta e' quella aspettata, perche' gli scammers mancano di fantasia e seguono tutti lo stesso modus operandi:

      My name is Leonis, I am from Denmark and the flat is still available for rent. It was redecorated last year is looking very nice and clean. Has a fully furnished kitchen, clean and well tidy sitting rooms, laundry rooms and fully furnished with home utilities like: electric shower, Lounge, Vacuum Cleaner, Toaster, Owen and microwave, dryer, iron, washing machine , refrigerator , dishwasher, power shower, heater, cable ready, TV set and DVD player, Internet connection, equipped kitchen and everything a house needs. I'm interested in finding someone clean who can take care of this house more then getting money from renting it if you know what I mean.

     The price I want is ££770 per month for entire flat, bills included and I am interested in a long term agreement, minimum 3 months!

     If you are decided to view the flat and  have the money I could come in the next few days to show you the apartment and maybe sign the tenancy agreement if you like my flat (I am sure you will love it) but first I have to be sure you  really do need a place to live because two weeks ago a person told me he is really interested and he asked me to go to London to meet him and sign the tenancy agreement and when I arrived there no one showed up to rent my place and I lost time and money for nothing. Please accept my apologies if I am rude but I hope you will understand me!

Il proprietario vive all'estero, gli interessa non guadagnare dalla sua proprieta' ma che qualcuno la tenga appropriatamente. Ci si puo' ancora credere, se si e' un poco ingenui, e spesso il bisogno o il desiderio di rendere decente il soggiorno a Londra ci possono rendere ingenui.

Hello, 

        I've attached some pictures of the flat and  a model of the rental contract(standard rental agreement)! The flat is located in Orange Grove, Cathall, Leytonstone, E11 4LP but I can`t give you the exact address because there`s no one living out there and I`m afraid of thieves and I do apologize for this but I hope you understand me because I`m in Denmark right now! The property comprises a bright and spacious 2 bedroom flat, well equipped kitchen and modern bathroom. Parking place is included too!

       In the kitchen there is a dishwasher and also a fridge freezer! Regarding the council tax I can tell you that it is included in the price of £770 per month and also internet broadband, gas and electricity are also included in this price! I am interested in a minimum three month agreement and I request one month rent in advance plus the equivalent of one month as a refundable deposit which you will get back at the end of the contract.

        I prefer the first payment to be in cash, against signed rental agreement, keys and receipt!

       Regarding the plumbings and all that kind of stuff I can tell you that the flat was recently renovated and all electrical part and plumbings are new so that won`t be necessary any repairs anyway I have a person who can manage this starting from October. 

       We can sign the rental contract starting from weekend but I need to be sure that you have serious intentions in renting the flat that`s why I attached here a model of the rental contract and also we can discuss the terms when we will meet!

If you are decided to view the flat let me know because there is another person interested in reserving it!

E qui anche il piu' ingenuo deve cominciare a dubitare, sia per la modalita' di pagamento (contanti), sia per il periodo minimo di contratto richiesto (chi si farebbe su e giu' dalla Danimarca per affittare una casa per 3 mesi?), sia per il continuo ripetere quanto ti stia dando per cosi' poco. Ma soprattutto perche' dice di non voler dare l'indirizzo completo per paura dei ladri ma fornisce, insieme al nome di due strade non proprio vicine fra loro, un post code completo, inserendo il quale in Google Maps si puo' avere la posizione esatta di una casa con uno scarto di 2/3 porte. Metto il post code in Google Maps per sapere se la casa esiste davvero o se il tipo vuole affittarmi una chiesa o un dormitorio, e Google Maps mi abbandona in un giardinetto pubblico. Il truffatore non ha avuto neppure l'accortezza di dare il post code di un edificio...

Gli riscrivo, continuando a fingermi fesso:

Non ha problemi a concedermi un contratto di 3 anni, quando in Londra nessuno te lo fa piu' lungo di 1 anno. Pero' vuole essere sicuro che ho i soldi, dato che si deve fare il viaggio dalla Danimarca. Posizione condivisibile, cosi' suggerisco il modo per dimostrargli che ho i soldi:

I understand your position. How can I show you that I have the money? I won't pay such a amount before having the house key. I could send you a scanning of my bank statement.

Ed ecco che si arriva al modo in cui mi avrebbe fregato:

We could meet and maybe sign the tenancy agreement this Sunday but you see, due to previous predicament that I have gone through in the past trying to rent the property to some students, I have got to realize that many people are not really in need of an apartment all they do is secure a place in advance, my last experience in trying to rent the property to a particular lady had got me to predicate on these, she made me believe she was willing and ready to get the apartment she even went to the extend of showing me her statement of account, which made me took her for the viewing but after taking her for the viewing, she saw the apartment and got to love it and never wanted to loose it, so she kept pleading I retain it for her because she is not financially composed at the moment, which I did but ended up disastrously. 

So basically for me to be sure of you been willing and ready to get the apartment I will employ you walk into any Western Union agency and send the total bill cash £1540(one month rent and one month refundable deposit) to your partner's name or a friends name (NOT to ME) or your partner/friend can send it to you with the destination of United Kingdom. All I need is for you to get back to me with the receipt issued to you after making the transaction so I can confirm it! 

When we will meet in person to sign the papers we will go together to Western Union and you will withdraw the cash and pay me in hand! I just need to see that you do have the money available and you do have serious intentions in renting the flat! If the Western Union agent will ask you about the receiver you should tell him that is a relative of yours because the transfer fees will be cheaper! If you will tell them the reason they might consider this a commercial transaction and charge you more. Anyway I will pay for it either you take the flat or not! I will book the flight for Sunday as soon as I have your positive answer ! 

I do apologies for that but as I told you last time when I arrived to London to show the flat to a person everything was a stupid joke and I hope you understand me because I don`t want to waste my time and money on plane tickets.

Ovviamente una copia del mio estratto conto non puo' bastare, perche' altre persone in passato gli hanno fatto sprecare tempo e denaro, e mi suggerisce di inviare i soldi tramite Western Union a qualcuno di mia fiducia in UK, quindi di mandargli per fax o email copia della ricevuta. Sulla ricevuta sarebbe presente il codice segreto necessario per ritirare i soldi, ma lui non potrebbe ritirarli perche' io ho inviato i soldi in UK e lui vive all'estero. In teoria io sarei tranquillo: i soldi sono li', ma nessuno a parte me puo' toccarli. Leonis si e' anche raccomandato di mentire all'operatore Western Union sul motivo della transazione (se trasferisci i soldi ad un parente gli oneri sulla transazione sono meno costosi!), evidentemente perche' alle agenzie WU gliene capitano tanti di fessi che inviano i soldi in questo modo e mi metterebbero in guardia che si tratta di una fregatura.

Qui ho interrotto il gioco, che mi sarebbe piaciuto protrarre per un poco ancora, ma in quei giorni non avevo proprio tempo. Ho inutilmente provato a rintracciare la email di Leonis, ma ha preso le precauzioni del caso ed e' protetta contro questo tipo di ricerca, ma il tipo, quasi sicuramente nigeriano, vive a Londra per certo, quindi con la copia della ricevuta avrebbe potuto ritirare i soldi. Ed ogni pagamento fatto con Western Union o altro sistema di money transfer non e' rintracciabile. 

Occhio quindi, a Londra costa tutto molto caro. Se vi offrono qualcosa di conveniente e' una fregatura per certo.
